Organizational Overview:

The Division of Animal Services is responsible for Animal Control and related services for 49 towns in Bergen and Hudson Counties. The mission of Animal Services is to promote the humane treatment of all animals, reunite lost pets with their owners, and encourage adoption, foster care, and wildlife rehabilitation. Additionally, Animal Services works to reduce animal populations through spay/neuter programs (TNR) and public education on animal welfare. The organization also supports the community in responsible pet ownership.

Job Description:           

This employment opportunity is to serve as a Full-Time Animal Attendant for the Division of Animal Services.  Under direction, cares for, feeds and grooms dogs, cats, and other animals; does related work as required.

Job Responsibilities:          

  • Feed, water, clean, groom, and exercise animals.
  • Cleans and sterilizes animal food bowls and water pans.
  • Cleans, disinfects, and deodorizes washing and grooming areas.
  • Cleans and disinfects animal living quarters and may clean other areas including the office and outside areas.
  • Collect stool samples and take them to veterinarian for analysis for parasites.
  • Observes animals’ general health, diet, weight, appetite, etc., for negative symptoms.
  • Maintains security within the area that the animals are housed.
  • Transports animals to veterinarian for check-ups, shots, deworming or other examination and treatment.
  • May assist with the training of animals.
  • May perform routine clerical work in keeping records of animals being housed.

Schedule:   

  • Full-Time (40 hours/week).  
  • Evenings, weekends and holidays as required

Education Requirements: High School Diploma

Other Requirements:

  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Appointees will be required to possess a driver’s license valid in New Jersey to perform the essential duties of the position.
  • Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.

Full-Time Salary: $35,360 / per annum
